Week 3 - Exploring Emerging Markets + article
I was amazed to know how much money someone can earn from the technology - internet especially in this case. Most of the brilliant people - undoubtfully those of the richest one, can thing out from the box and make $ from the internet. Some of the ideas mention includes:1. Selling 'virtual-weapon' for gamers
How do we know that people will willing to pay real money to get virtual thing? And when we never try it, we never know. Yes, it works. There are several 'weapon' designers, who earn hundred thousands a month, only by creating virtual weapon, in contrast with an office employer who must be happy with their regular wage a month
2. Online Games
Yes, absolutely. Even the people selling the virtual-weapon, the part of the online games can be rich, how about the online games creator?
3. Spices + recipes
I just know that there is a business like that. They sell food. Online. But food is easily rotten.. then how? Once you order, they send spices needed for you, along with the recipe and all instruction to made exactly like what they're advertised
4. Online Store
The sell of spices and recipes is just one from the whole big idea - online store. No doubt, the online store like Amazon is one of the biggest in this world. I have just going through the video presentation given to us, representing Jeff Bezos, the CEO of amazon. It's some way how they can diffrentiate theirselves, stand up as the best among most of the online store. They got the comparative advantage by being the first-kind ever. The same pride carried by Creative to be one of the standard for sound card.
After watching the presentation about amazon, I am really interested to know further about the it, and eventually search for more information. One of Bezos's interesting moment is, when he said "Communication is terrible!' " The pronouncement shocked his managers. But Bezos pursued his idea of a decentralized, disentangled company where small groups can innovate and test their visions independently of everyone else. He came up with the notion of the "two-pizza team": If you can't feed a team with two pizzas, it's too large. That limits a task force to five to seven people, depending on their appetites. Such a nice quote.
5. Milliondollarhomepage (article, extract from Wikipedia and Reuters)
Anybody heard about this before? I just know it recently, but looking from how many homepage has tried to follow this idea (lots of homepage with different suffix) it should has been booming enough. What is it all about? What is he doing? Selling porn? Dealing prescription drugs? Nope. All he sells are pixels, the tiny dots on the screen that appear when you call up his home page.
The Million Dollar Homepage is a website conceived by Alex Tew, a 21 year old student from Wiltshire, England to help raise money for his university education. Launched on August 26, 2005, the website generated a gross income of $1,037,100 USD and has a Google PageRank of 7.
The index page of the site consists of a 1000 x 1000 pixel grid (one million pixels), which he sells image-based links on for US $1 per pixel, in minimum ten by ten blocks. A person who buys one or more of these pixelblocks can design a tiny image which will be displayed on them, and also decide a URL which he or she wants them to link to, as well as a slogan displayed when hovering the cursor over the link. The aim of the site was to sell all of the pixels in the image, thus generating one million dollars of income for the creator, which has been accomplished.
On January 1, 2006, the final 1,000 pixels left were put up for auction on ebay.co.uk. The auction closed on January 11 with the winning bid of $38,100.00. This brought the final tally to $1,037,100 USD in profits.
How could it be possible? "I didn't expect it to happen like that," Tew said. But it happened. Even though he himself didn't really believe anyone would want to buy them, he decided to go ahead with the plan, knowing he had very little to lose by trying. That's the key. Trying. Be innovative! There are still a big path of this internet-one the our highlighted emerging markets to be explored!
